What This Lesson Covers:
In this lesson I teach you the Traditional Irish Tune called "The Minstrel Boy". This arrangement is in the Key of G and is perfect for playing Solo. However, I also have the chords written above the Tablature if you want someone to play guitar or want chordal accompaniment. I really love the melody and chords to this tune and I tried to use bass notes and a lot of arpeggios to really outline the beautiful chords that accompany the memorable melody line. It's a fairly simple arrangement, but learning how to play it very clean and smooth can be a challenge. I hope you enjoy and have fun learning.
Here's a little historical information about the song from Wikipedia:
The Minstrel Boy" is an Irish patriotic song written by Thomas Moore (1779–1852) who set it to the melody of The Moreen, an old Irish air. It is widely believed that Moore composed the song in remembrance of a number of his friends, whom he met while studying at Trinity College, Dublin and who had participated in (and were killed during) the Irish Rebellion of 1798.
However, the song gained widespread popularity and became a favourite of many Irishmen who fought during the United States Civil War and gained even more popularity after World War I. The song is notably associated with organizations that historically had a heavy representation of Irish-Americans, in particular the police and fire departments of New York, Boston and Chicago and those of various other major US metropolitan areas, even after those organizations have ceased to have a substantial over-representation of personnel of Irish ancestry. The melody is frequently played at funerals of members and/or officers of such organizations who have died or been killed in service, typically on bagpipes. Unsurprisingly, given its lyrics, it is also associated with the Irish Army and with traditionally Irish regiments in the British, United States and other armies.

Have Fun with this one!!!
~Troy~
With TAPS I show you how you can play a simple melody in "Closed Position" (no open strings), and how you can use this song to really improve your basic technique both Left Hand & Right Hand.
I'm also teaching you the song "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Now, I know what you might be thinking..."Why am I learning a Nursery Rhyme!" However, I picked a really simple song because I'm using these songs to teach you some real Basic Fundamental Techniques on the Dobro, and how you can take a simple single note melody, and HARMONIZE it. If you can understand the Basics of what I'm showing you with this song, you can apply it to most any song you want to play!!
I also show you how both of these songs fit within the Closed Position C Major Scale Shape, and how you can very easily change keys simply by changing the position of your bar/hand.
This Lesson Comes With:
- The TABLATURE of Both Songs with Right Hand Fingering and For Twinkle Twinkle I have TAB for both the Simple Melody and also the Harmonized Melody.
- The Video is close to 30 minutes long

What This Lesson Covers:
This is Volume #4 of my series "Combining Rolls & Licks" for Resonator Guitar (aka Dobro®). In this lesson I cover "Minor Rolls & Licks" in the Key of Em (E minor). The chords we will be working with will be Em, Am, and B. (I'm keeping the V chord Major) This lesson also comes with a Full Color Diagram of all kinds of minor chords you can play on the Dobro®.
Because we are in the Key of Em and it is the Relative Minor of the key of G major, you could also use the licks you've learned in the last 3 volumes and see how they will sound over the Minor Backing Track. In a lot of cases G licks can also be used over an Em chord. Try It!!! And see what I'm talking about!
The Jam Tracks come in 3 different speeds... 80, 100, and 110 BPM.
Em is a really fun key to play in, and I think you really enjoy jamming on the Licks and Rolls with the included Jam Tracks!!!
Have Fun and Thanks Again!!!
